The Child Tax Credit is an historic tax cut for families. It’s a tax credit up to $3,600 per child – but the payments are automatic every month, so you don’t have to wait to file your taxes to get your money back.
$300/MONTH PAYMENT FOR CHILDREN UNDER 6
$250/MONTH FOR CHILDREN AGES 6 AND OLDER
Beginning July 15, most eligible taxpayers received the credit without having to do anything.

ARE YOU A RENTER?
GET RENTAL ASSISTANCE
If you are behind on your rent and at risk of losing your home, apply for emergency rental assistance with SC Housing.
Through SC Stay Plus, eligible applicants can receive up to 12 months of assistance with late rent and/or utility payments dating back to March 13, 2020.
Some counties have received funding to establish their own rental assistance programs. If you live in one of the following counties, click here:

If your employment has been impacted by COVID or other unforeseen circumstances, you may be eligible to apply for unemployment benefits
Apply for Unemployment Insurance
The American Rescue Plan added an extra $300 per week and extended federal unemployment benefits until September 6, 2021. Governor Henry McMaster stopped federal supplemental unemployment insurance, effective June 30, 2021, but you can still apply for regular state benefits.

Unfortunately, the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) ended on May 31, 2021. Existing borrowers may be eligible for PPP loan forgiveness.

On July 27, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) updated its COVID guidance to recommend indoor masking for all regardless of vaccination status.

Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, South Carolina will receive approximately $8.8 billion in federal funding:
$2.6 BILLION FOR STATE GOVERNMENT
$1.6 BILLION FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
$2.1 BILLION FOR K-12 EDUCATION
$523 MILLION FOR COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
$245 MILLION FOR TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Federal funding is already making a positive impact in South Carolina, but most of this money has yet to be spent. Many decisions on how to allocate resources made available through the American Rescue Plan will be made later this year.
